The Human Immunosuppression Virus (HIV) causes a depletion of body stores of selenium, which then in turn cause the immune system failures manifested as Acquired Immunodeficiency Disease Syndrome (AIDS). Selenium supplementation has been shown to forestall the progression of HIV infection to developing AIDS, to reduce the symptoms of AIDS and to improve the lifespan of AIDS patients. More scientific details can be found at For a historical review of the studies involving Selenium and HIV/AIDS, see
